There isn't much gravel in the beginning of this route, but it's worth the wait for all of the awesome gravel you'll ride in the second half. You'll have a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains for a long time before riding along their base.

Features along this route:

  • Don't be surprised if a black bear crossing the road ahead of you!
  • Keep an eye out for the silly goats at the top of the climb on Ore Bank Rd just before it turns to gravel!

  • A store for refueling is available about 22 miles into the ride.
  • You'll hit some other great gravel almost right after leaving Grottoes and crossing over a river.
