History

Twenty years ago Rocktown owner, Ken Bell, graduated from JMU and began working as a freelance designer. After a few years in northern Virginia, he could no longer resist the Valley’s magnetic pull. Ken moved back to Harrisonburg and opened Tradeshowdirect, which has grown steadily over the last 15 years.

In 2004, Ken partnered with his friend Jason Berry to launch Gripped Films. Together, the two produced their first award-wining documentary, Off Road To Athens, which followed 8 Olympic cycling hopefuls as they raced for selection all over the world. After producing two more documentaries about cycling, 24 Solo and Chasing Legends, Ken began to persue his childhood dream of opening a bike shop.  With his oldest son riding for the US Mountain Bike national team, and having helped launch the Virginia High School Mountain Bike Team while also promoting mountain bike and cyclocross races, the time was right.

The Shop

Rocktown Bicycles offers quality service and great products from top-notch comapanies, like Specialized, Surly, Civia, Planet Bike, Continental, and many others. Our customers benefit from experienced mechanics and knowledgeable staff.  We’re happy to service all types of bicycles and will gladly answer any of your bike related questions.  Each Rocktown staff member is an accomplished cyclist in their own right.  If you are looking for a place to ride, stop-by the shop; we’d love to share our favorite roads and trails.  We promote local cycling initiatives; high school racing, cyclocross, road, and mountain bike races, roller races, group rides, and a junior racing team.  We fully support the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition and the International Mountain Bike Association.
