2018 Ruby Expert Ultegra Di2

If you thought that a bike had to be jarring and unforgiving in order to be fast, we apologize in advance for bursting your bubble. The more comfortable you are, in fact, the faster you'll go. And if you need proof of this, look no further than our Ruby Expert with Ultegra Di2. Its revolutionary design erases any shadow of a doubt that smoother is indeed faster.

  • Featuring the Specialized Rider-First Engineered™ design that ensures every frame size has the same legendary responsiveness and smooth ride quality that you'd expect from a Ruby. The FACT 10r frameset is exceptional in every way, offering the ideal blend of light overall weight and targeted stiffness. Meanwhile, the all-new Future Shock "suspension" system at the cockpit delivers a revolutionary degree of comfort and control.
  • The Ruby Disc fork is built from our extraordinary FACT carbon fiber for the lightest possible weight, supreme stiffness, strength, and reactivity, while a thru-axle design only stands to bolster all of the above.

The Ruby Expert Ultegra Di2 normally comes fully stocked with Ultegra - crank, brake/shift levers, derailleurs, brake calipers... For this particular model, we customized it for our customer to the Praxis Zayante 48/32 crank - allowing for a nicer gearing for the hilly/mountainous areas we ride in.
With every bike we sell it is our goal to make it perfect for YOU! From finding the proper size of frame, to adjusting the other parts of the bike to your body geometry, it is not uncommon to see changes such as the one we have done for this Ruby, because everyone is different, and our mission is to help you enjoy riding your bike! :)

2019 Diverge Comp

The new model years are here, and the new Diverge has only gotten better!

The Diverge Comp has been designed to be a through-and-through exploration machine. It's
equally adept at crushing dirt climbs as it is to cruising to the coffee shop or hopping into a
local group ride. And while it might sound cliché in a landscape of bike claims chocked full with hyperbole, the Diverge Comp truly is one bike that does it all.

And while riding gravel and dirt roads on a road bike may add to the adventure, there’s only so much that wider tires with lower pressures can absorb, in terms of bumps. With this in mind, we implemented a new version of our Future Shock into the Diverge design. It not only soaks up bumps with ease, but also adds the benefit of extremely predictable handling. That's because the wheelbase isn’t lengthening when you hit a bump, so the front end of the Diverge keeps the same effective head tube angle. In other words, when you dive hard into a turn, you won’t be surprised by under-steer or sloppy handling. Unlike the original Future Shock (found on the Roubaix), the Diverge's version features a progressive spring that makes this technology more suitable for off-road applications, where stiffer suspension is often needed to soak-up larger bumps and obstacles.

Adding to its multifaceted talents, it's topped off with three water bottle mounts, plus mounts for racks and fenders. For the spec, Specialized wanted to make sure that it shifted crisply and braked smoothly mile after mile, so you'll find a Shimano Ultegra groupset, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, and a DT R470 Disc wheelset.

  • The FACT 9r carbon frame features our adventure-bound Open Road Geometry, FutureShock Progressive suspension with 20mm of travel, and front/rear thru-axles, making itthe ultimate tool for your next adventure.

  • The lightweight FACT carbon fork is plenty stiff, aiding in handling and a light overall weight.

  • Shimano's no-fuss Ultegra shifting with hydraulic disc brakes provides precise shiftingand plenty of stopping power.

Gorilla Monsoon

The bike that really is meant to do it all.

All-City describes their Gorilla Monsoon as "Monster" - their, "most densely featured bike ever, fully hitting everything on our checklist for a steed that can take us far into the unknown in comfort, style and elegance."

This bike's limits only exist in your imagination. Want to do mixed pavement and single track rides? Put in long days off-road? Do some fire road touring? Camping? Ride across the continent? No problem.

Monsoon Features: Front and rear thru-axles, front and rear rack and fender mounts, compatibility with Surly-8 and 24-Pack racks, stealth dropper post routing, 27.5 x 2.4” tire clearance (650b x 48 with fenders), signature All-City dropouts, E.D. coating for rust prevention, and three water bottle mounts.
Some of you will want to throw 650b x 47c’s in it, that’s cool. The resulting slightly lower BB gives the bike excellent manners when riding with a load and is fully endorsed by us. If you want to run a 700c tire the max is a 42mm tire which will raise your BB by 8mm. 700c x 38 keeps the BB about the same.

The Gorilla Monsoon has front and rear thru-axles and fender mounts. It is specifically compatible with the Surly-8 and 24-Pack racks. If you want to get extra rowdy and stick a dropper post on it, there is stealth routing for such an act. This bike has 27.5 x 2.4" tire clearance, but can run down to 650b x 47c OR if you want that 700c lifestyle, 42mm tires are the max there. So, there's pretty much endless options for whatever crazy adventure you want to go on!

2019 Stumpjumper Expert/First Ride Impressions

The newly redesigned Stumpjumper FSR is here, and it is a party!

When we were told a new design of the Stumpjumper would be coming out this year, each of us were pretty curious as to how Specialized could improve on our already favorite trail bike.

The 2019 Stumpjumper comes with a new frame design, short travel & long travel options, new suspension tune, a flip chip to change the bottom bracket height, and a whole lot of fun!

I rode the previous Stumpjumper design last year. I did all sorts of riding on it - All-Mountain hangout gnar days, XC racing, and 100 mile racing. The bike did everything, and I really enjoyed it. However, there were a few issues I had with it that at the time I had attributed to just not being experienced enough on the trails. But then I rode the new Stumpjumper and realized that it wasn't my fault that I couldn't keep the front end of the older model down on steep climbs, or that the floppy feeling I experienced through some techy stuff wasn't because of a lack of "aggressiveness".

The new model made all of the issues I had on the older model completely vanish. My first ride on the new Stumpy was at the Massanutten Western Slope - one of our local trails systems with all the rocks you could want in all of the difficulty levels you could want. It's one of my favorite places to ride, with no shortage of spots to work on rock/tech riding. I have a few places on these trails that always give me a hard time - a steeper switchback with a small rock step right in the middle of a long climb, a couple of steeper climbs with a bunch of loose rock, some boulders on a ridge I've always struggled to ride... The 2019 Stumpjumper got me over, and through, and up all of these features that I have burned so well into my brain - they turned into fun features to ride instead of "Kelly's struggle bus section." This bike feels planted through everything. The front end doesn't come up on me at all; I just pedal right along through rock gardens, and on descents I feel like I'm on a rocket ship.

These improvements in my riding are likely attributed to the change in frame geometry - slacker fork, longer top tube and wheel base, BUT the chainstays have stayed the same shorter length of 437mm (same as the previous model). The new frame with the Sidearm design is lighter and stiffer. All of these features combined with the new suspension trail tune make for a bike that truly is ready for anything and everything. It's gone above and beyond what we could have ever expected.

Another feature that completely blew my mind is the new Command Post dropper. It now drops 160mm from what used to be 125mm in the old model for size Medium through X-Large. The first time I dropped the saddle I almost didn't know what to do. We were heading down a descent from the mountain overlook, I hit the dropper lever, and all of a sudden the seat was gone (not really but I was just so surprised lol). Having the seat go so low brought my center of gravity to a new position and it was pretty fun getting real rowdy heading down the mountain.

I haven't completely opened up on the bike up yet - I'm still going through my "break-in" phase on it - but on my second ride I did get it going pretty good and got a bunch of PR's on some Strava segments :)

One of our favorite bikes is now here with hydraulic disk brakes and more gears!

  • Wide diameter, 650bx2.3" Nimbus Sport tires provide excellent traction, stability, and cushioning, which creates a safer, more reliable, and more comfortable ride on either paved or dirt roads.

2018 Specialized Epic Expert

Lightweight carbon frame? Check. Industry-leading suspension technology? Oh yeah. Race-ready build kit? You know it. The Epic Expert is not only ready to shine in races, it's also ready to shred your local trails!

Race courses have evolved over the past few years. They're more technical, steeper, and simply more challenging to ride. Specialized looked at the sum of parts that make a bike handle well, like the head angle, reach, stack, chainstay length, fork offset, etc., and reevaluated all of it. Increasing the reach made a bike that was more stable at speed and generally more comfortable to ride. Dropper posts? Yep, those fit, and not just a short-travel XC option, but full-length droppers that fit in the 30.9mm seat tube. Head angle? We slacked that out, but not without evaluating the overall handling package. It now lands on a custom offset, 42mm fork that works with the slacker head angle in order to behave itself in tight corners and through switchbacks.

Next comes the redesigned Brain technology, Brain 2.0. The Brain changed the way the bike world looked at suspension, both its inefficiencies and benefits alike. And oh was it good. It won races and put a flag in the ground for Specialized as a true leader in innovation and suspension development, but they knew that it could be made better. Simple physics showed that, by moving the Brain closer to the rear axle, it would be in the most sensitive spot. And after countless hours with the RockShox team, the new Brain became more than just a slight upgrade. It's totally new. Now, it reacts seamlessly to bump forces, it has much more consistent damping performance, and finally, it integrates the hoses into the suspension links. This, in turn, improves oil paths, and it creates an incredibly sleek package that outperforms anything on the market.

The new Epic also gets a serious upgrade in the stiffness department. The Rider-First Engineered™ tubes place complex carbon pieces in all the right places, which greatly increases stiffness in the front end for a vast improvement in ride quality and control. To go along with this, each frame size has size-specific tubes that result in the stiffest, best riding XC bike we've ever developed—no matter the frame size.

2018 Epic Expert Specs:

  • Frame: Specialized FACT 11m, full carbon frame, XC Geometry, threaded BB, 12x148mm rear spacing, internal cable routing, 100mm of travel
  • Shifter, Cassette, Derailleur: SRAM GX Eagle, trigger, 12-speed

2018 Specialized Chisel Expert

The Chisel Expert is here to bring your hardtail mtb experience to the next level!

Given its lightweight and ultra-stiff characteristics, M5 aluminum was the natural choice for the frame's construction. And when complemented with our speed-focused XC 29 Geometry, D'Aluisio Smartweld technology, and internal cable routing, you get a bike that compromises nothing in delivering explosive speed, confident handling, and hassle-free maintenance.

ABOUT D'Aluisio Smartweld:

"Today, many are content leaving alloy frames in the past, but we are not the many. Our aluminum road frames are recognizable in name alone. True, they have a foot rooted in the past, but we've ensured that they're firmly pointed to the future through D'Aluisio Smartweld Technology (DSW). And now that this technology has been proven at the highest levels on the road, we're happy to announce that it's migrated to the trail with the Chisel, too.
Traditional welding methods create frame joints by connecting tubes to cylinders, leaving the performance & security of the connection up to the skill of the welder. DSW, however, takes the joint and gives it back to the engineers. This means we're able to move the joint away from the area of the highest stress, making the finished frame's balance of strength, rigidity, and weight more pronounced than any alloy frame in history.
We've also taken comfort into account by employing a butted tube design, where excess material has been removed from low-stress areas. This allows our engineers to create a natural compliance in the tubes of the frame, so you'll experience less of the harsh ride characteristics that've plagued aluminum frames and more of the smooth ride qualities that we've engineered into the frame.
Consider it aluminum rethought for the future." -
specialized.com

A custom RockShox Reba RL 29 fork offers up 90/100mm of smooth travel (size-specific), while an easily accessible compression and rebound adjusts permit you to customize the feel according to the terrain at hand.

SRAM GX handles one-by shifting duties, practically eliminating dropped chains and reducing overall bike weight.

2018 Specialized Chisel

With the DSW M5 Alloy Frame, the Chisel is an aluminum mountain bike in a class of its own.

Traditional welding methods create frame joints by connecting tubes to cylinders, leaving the performance & security of the connection up to the skill of the welder. DSW, however, takes the joint and gives it back to the engineers. This means Specialized is able to move the joint away from the area of the highest stress, making the finished frame's balance of strength, rigidity, and weight more pronounced than any alloy frame in history.

There are 2 levels of the Chisel Mountain Bike - Comp & Expert, in both Men's and Women's versions. The geometry is the same between both genders, what changes are the touch points. So, handlebars and saddle are the 2 main pieces that are different, as well as color options. What is placed stock on these bikes is based of of years of fit research done by Specialized with Retul and Univeristy of Colorado Boulder. If you happen to like one color over the other, what is nice is the geometry and gear are the same, touch points can be changed!

2018 Crux Sport

Even as barriers are torn down, and the dirt is scrubbed from our weary, spent faces, we smile. As our frozen fingers come back to life, and the mud is hosed from both cranks and derailleurs, we laugh. Through the pain and the mud, the cold and the blood, World Champions and weekend warriors alike are united in this same thought—I love cyclocross.

Cross is boss!
